Yahoo.com recently reported that Texas is #2 in the nation for the highest fees for a mortgage.  The official numbers were provide by Bankrate .com.  Fees charged by lenders were up 22.8% over last year.  And fees by third parties was up over 47%.  Third party fees would include your appraisal fee and title company fees.  The increase of these fees can be contributed to the additional amount of work that mortgages now require.  Appraisal fees have gone up due to appraisals now being ordered thru a 3^rd party.  This process known as HVCC has added a new person to the process, the appraisal ordering company.  They then pass that fee onto the client. 

I can honestly say that my fees have not risen by the amount that the article says they have.  Though I have seen modest raises such as in the appraisal fee, etc.  While Texas did rank #2 for highest fees, Houston was ranked #2 for lowest mortgage rates in the nation.  So while the fees may seem to be more, the rates should be lower then the national average.  Please call me today to make sure you are getting the best rate possible with the lowest fees.
