How do you know if your roof has been damaged by a storm?  Well, I recently posed this question to Fred Reinwald of Acumen Contracting, they specialize in roof replacement by insurance claims.  These are the obvious signs that your roof has been damaged possibly by a storm

  • Coffee or Tea looking stains on your ceiling or wall area.
  • Hail Damage
  • Curling of shingles
  • Buckling of shingles
  • Blistering
  • Rotting shingles
  • Lifted shingles
  • Granular loss

Fred also went on to give his thoughts on storm damage and the process of having your roof replaced:

"Even in the absence of hail in strong thunderstorms, damage can occur from the wind.  Even straight wind can raise shingle tabs. Once shingle tabs are a few years old, a minor flex can cause them to crack and loosen a little. Hot sun, heavy rain, and more wind will work on this tab until it can no longer provide the protection that it is designed to do.   Damage to a roof may not always be apparent.  Hail, wind, and other elements can affect a roof without leaving ugly or unsightly marks on a roof that is easy to see from the ground. Unless you use binoculars and have some measure of training or experience in what to look for when inspecting a roof for damage, you will probably not know your roof has sustained damage.

Have you noticed that your neighbors are having their roof repaired? Another neighbor is having their roof replaced. Come to think of it, a storm did pass through your area recently. Maybe you think you should have your roof inspected for everything from hail damage to wind damage to missing or torn shingles.

As homeowners, we are vulnerable to Mother Nature every day.  When misfortune lands at our doorstep or, in this case, our rooftop, we can be thankful for insurance coverage and the availability of roofing insurance claims for storm damage.

At Acumen Contracting Group, we want you to contact our insurance restoration specialists when you need an inspection of your roof. We offer a free inspection and evaluation for your roof when you know your roof has been damaged or even when you just suspect that you have damage. Many times, roof damage is not obvious from the ground. A wind storm or hail storm can damage a roof and leave the surrounding area unscathed. Having Fred Reinwald check your roof when you suspect there may be a problem will greatly ease your mind and could save you a lot of money by catching a roof problem before it damages your life's biggest investment.

The only really sure way to find some types of damage is to have someone trained to find these damages.  Call Fred Reinwald at 713-300-0428 Ext. 1167
