Even with the ending of the Federal First Time Homebuyers Tax Credit, Houston Realtors are still reporting positive growth. In June of 2010, the Houston Real Estate Market showed a 2.9% increase in single family sales compared to June of 2009. Sales volume in all price sectors showed gains with the exception of the $150,000 - $250,000 sector. There are many reasons why this portion of the market did not see positive growth. One nice surprise was a 4.1% increase in the $500,000 and up market. Another promising sign of the market is the average price which showed at .09% gain, not huge but still a good sign that values are holding. All these signs point to a healthy Houston real estate market that continues to forge ahead of current economic conditions. The only note of concern is the rise in months of inventory of homes that rose to 7.3 months. This indicates a significant increase in the number of homes on the market which is a double edged sword. This factor means that sellers might have to wait longer as the number of competing properties increase but for buyers, this means a larger variety of homes in Houston to choose from and generally more favorable conditions for finding a home that meets their needs.
