No matter where you live there are people who stand out or should stand out.  Politicians, police officers, teachers, athletes, etc.  Some people call them home town heroes or legends.  Fort Bend County's own Larry Callies is someone who should get more attention then he does.  When I met Larry he was the super cool, informative and entertaining cowboy at the  George Ranch in Richmond Texas.  Larry is African American and as a True Cowboy, that is an accomplishment in itself.  Infact he was the second Black Cowboy ever to make the Texas State Rodeo in 1971.  The first was Tex Williams his cousin, truly a family to be proud of.  Thru his career he would win 25 buckles.  Not to mention he had a singing career that would led to him opening for such famous acts as Travis Tritt, Selena, etc. 

Larry worked for the Sugar land Post Office for 34yrs and since has worked at the George Ranch Historical Park.   And I can personally say Larry is the Highlight of the George Ranch.  Whether you are 3yrs old(my daughter) or 32(me) your lasting impression of the George Ranch will be the History and Larry Callies.  He is extremely knowledgeable about his trade and loves to pass that information along.  For more on the George Ranch.  For more info on  Larry check out the Article in the most recent Greatwood Monthly magazine.  You will also notice the great art done of Larry by Komal Agarwal a Junior from Seven Lakes High School in Katy.
