My New Blog

Every couple months, I like to “Google” My Name and My Website, DaveYourMortgageGuy.com.  Of course this is a great idea so you know what comes up in those searches.  And which blogs, websites, topics, etc come up at the top.  But, I recently “Googled” myself and noticed a couple interesting things.  Here are my 5 stories on what came up when I Googled myself:

 1.      Thieves- They stole from ME!!!!  Here on Activerain you can reblog someone’s blog or post.  Which is great.  Now I don’t really care if someone ‘borrows” a blog and post it to their website, as long as they reference myself and my website.  But, what do you do in this situation….. stress out or threaten them???  I don’t think it is worth it and honestly its pretty cool that they think my writing is informative.  So I just add a comment stating “thanks for passing this information along to your readers and I hope they find it informative” and sign it – DaveYourMortgageGuy.com.  That way, at least my information is on there.

2.      How did My Blog Get There? – Like I mention in #1, its obvious your blog article can be found on different places.  Especially if you blog for different websites.  I blog for Realtor Magazine(YPN) and Houston Agent Magazine.  And when I Googled my information, I found those articles on other websites such as facebook pages, realtor websites and even State Realtor Associations.  Very Cool. 

3.      Find out if you Have Fans and Friends- By doing my search I also found that I was the preferred lender for certain realtors.  And they were nice enough to post my information on their website.  That deserved a HUGE thank you!!

4.      Were you Quoted or mentioned?- Recently, I gave my opinion on “How to Choose the Right Name for Your Business”.  And I was actually quoted in the article.  I had given my opinion to the author of the article, but never heard anything after that.  So I assumed, my quote wasn’t used.  I was wrong, so that was a nice article to come across. 

5.      Where else does your Name show up??- A while back a past client had written about her great experience using me for her refinance, on a forum for new moms.   This client actually did not tell me this, I actually found out when another mom called to refinance and mentioned this forum.  I have now done 2 refinances just from her comments.

Of course the key to a successful blog is being found on the first page of Google.  But don’t just stop at Googling your blog topics.  Google yourself and see what appears.  It is good to know what comes up when others search for you.  And it also helps to know what your efforts in blogging, social media, etc are leading to in regards to Google searches.  And lastly, do not Google yourself daily.  That is a waste of your time, but do google yourself every couple months or so.   Please comment and tell me stories of when you Googled yourself!!!
