My New Blog

I recently read a great article on www.searchengineland.com and it was titled 5 Easy Things You Can do to Improve Website Conversion Now. They just as easily could have called it 5 tips to Improve Your Website, Period! Here are the 5 Great Tips combined with my Two Cents:

  1. Remove Unnecessary Web Page Content- Sounds easy enough. If its not getting you traffic or people do not visit the page often, get rid of it!! If you overload the viewer with too much content they will leave your sight. So Keep It Simple, if its not great content get rid of it. Now I know what you are thinking....."how do I know which page is getting traffic and which aren't?". Great question, install Google Analytics on your website. This tool will tell you everything, which pages are most popular, how many pages are on average looked at when someone visits your site, how many visitors per day, and where your traffic is coming from.
  2. Reduce the Load Time of Your Page- too many photos or videos??? Get rid of some or reduce their size. The article mentioned a great stat, one extra second delay in page load time and you have a 7% less chance of someone staying on your site, etc. To find out how your page does in regards to load time and suggestions to improve your load time check out: Page Speed. Another great Google product.
  3. Add a Call to Action on your "Thank You" Page- You know the Thank You Page, it's the page that pops up when someone signs up on your website for more information, etc. Customize that Thank You Page, add in a link to send them to your Blog, signup for a newsletter, etc. These things will help get you even more traffic or keep your traffic longer on your site.
  4. Use Bullet Points- I love bullet points and numbering items. By using Bullet Points you allow the reader/visitor to view the most important information. This is also goes for using BOLD letters. Don't force the reader to skip thru 6 paragraphs to get the main points, give them to the reader!!
  5. Use Google Analytics- I mentioned it before, but the article mentions it as #5. If your not using Google Analytics, you have no idea what your website is doing. And you really have no idea where your website traffic is coming from

This article gave some great ideas and suggestions and I wanted to pass it along. With my added opinion.
